Preview: Project Disc Sheath – road disc rotor covers

We spent some time thinking about the ongoing discussion about disc brakes and the danger of injuries.

The fast spinning, and often hot brake discs, can quickly become dangerous in crashes, especially when more than one rider is brought down. Our project ‘disc sheath’ develops a solution for the pro peloton, and every other disc rider.

We developed a disc rotor cover for 160mm brake discs which offers protection against the sharp upper edge, as well as for the side of the disc. The cover can be mounted directly to the brake mount and disc brake, which means it fits most frames and forks. Its design doesn’t interfere with wheel changes which can remain quick and easy.

The protection was designed to minimise aerodynamic impact and prevent wind noise.

The photos show our most up-to-date 3D printed prototypes, although the final product will be produced in molded carbon fibre, naturally for Tune, light, stiff, and premium.

This is only a short preview 🙂 Further information will follow; so stay TUNED!
